This is an article on who the Better Packaging Co. are and their mission to use packaging as a force for good.
As environmental awareness continues to rise, both consumers and corporations are compelled to take action and reconsider their buying habits.
The Better Packaging Co. offers companies a solution to a problem that their customers are increasingly demanding they solve; less packaging waste in our oceans and landfills. Their packaging makes a positive contribution towards an incredible 14 of the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals. To find out how, read on!
In 2018, founders Rebecca Percasky and Kate Bezar set out to design a ‘more sustainable’ e-commerce courier satchel than the ubiquitous, single-use mailers made from 100% virgin plastic used to post everything from tooth-whitening kits to Jamie Oliver cookbooks.
An in-depth understanding of circular economy principles, detailed analysis of waste management systems globally and a crash course in bioplastics lead them to develop a certified home compostable mailing satchel.
Becs and Kate called their new mailers ‘Real Dirt Bags’ and they were an immediate hit with eCommerce merchants worldwide desperate to reduce the environmental impact of their operations.
They were certainly the world’s first “insta worthy” courier satchel and have since featured in thousands of posts by happy recipients and customers all over the globe.
Check out this waterproof, durable, and reusable product in the sample pack by clicking here. This range has since expanded to include labels, garment bags, reusable mailers, tape, bubble mailers and more!
BPCo. has in fact since sold over 60 million home compostable bags, but are not stopping there! Rebecca and Kate have realized that not only can they make packaging that has less impact but that they can actually use packaging as a force for good and champion real change.
Their most recent innovation, POLLAST!C does exactly this. It is a social solution to plastic pollution and is packed with impact!
BPCo. is once again at the forefront of innovation with the planet’s first 100% Ocean Bound Plastic pollution mailers and poly bags. These “Real Trash Bags” are made from plastic pollution collected from beaches and waterways in some of the poorest regions in South East Asia which often lack even the most basic waste management infrastructure.
By working with collectors in these communities in a sustainable, ethical way, BPCo. helps break the cycle of pollution and poverty. The entire process is also traceable and measurable, so companies know exactly how much impact and progress towards the UN’s SDGs they are making by switching from virgin plastic to POLLAST!C. More info can be found here.
Companies can learn a lot from Becs and Kate’s sustainable approach to business. By dedicating every aspect of their company to the betterment of the environment, the founders have demonstrated that their company is a key player in the impact economy. They have proven that solutions exist to eliminate our reliance on virgin plastics and towards new, circular models of plastics usage.
Companies keen to meet sustainable packaging targets (and impress their customers in the process) now have a unique opportunity to be amongst the first in the world to adopt POLLAST!C packaging.
There is a lot to learn when it comes to blending sustainability and business, but the Better Packing Company (a certified BCorp) is doing an exceptional job of leading by example.
