Clean Ocean Designs Eco Story

Clean Ocean Designs is committed to the creation of environmentally conscious surf products that are high quality and made to last. Founded by professional longboarder Oliver Parker, the company’s purpose-built line of fins, board covers, and mats are made from recycled plastics and biomaterials.

The young company, based on the rocky shores of Rhode Island, has already partnered with leaders in the ocean-centered environmental movement. They’ve supported beach clean-ups and mentorship programs with Changing Tides Foundation’s Women’s Outreach Mentorship Program (WOMP) as well as The Ocean Recovery Community Alliance (ORCA). These groups focus on providing meaningful give-back opportunities for coastal communities.

Clean Ocean Designs recently added its voice to the Coastal Hill Recreation Day in Washington DC, which was organized by the Surfrider Foundation. Parker spoke to congress alongside coastal community members, professional surfers, and policy experts on the importance of fighting climate change, stopping plastic pollution, and protecting clean water.

“We are running out of time as our single-use plastic production doubles each decade. Scientists estimate that more than 8.8 million tons of plastic end up in the ocean each year. This is absolutely unacceptable. We MUST pass the Break Free From Plastic Pollution Act. Alternatives to single-use plastic packaging, such as biodegradable alternatives, are here and readily available. The time is now to stand up for the future of our ocean and planet. Together we must implement the regulations that will drive the move away from conventional single-use plastics and toward a livable future for our children,” said Parker in his speech.

Parker is committed to making his company a force for positive change. Clean Ocean Designs is working hard to partner with organizations that protect marine and coastal habitats by raising awareness amongst our surfing community.
