Clean Ocean Designs started with a pursuit of sustainability and is now a brand for surfers, by surfers to protect our Oceans from plastic pollution.
Water, sand, wind, sun, these are what our environment is made of. As human beings we all come from Nature, but as surfers this is what defines who we are, our actions, our way of being, our behavior, our strength and our weakness.
Surfing brings us to a deep life experience that empowers the soul, we do not have a court, a street or anything artificial to practice what we love doing, we have Natural elements, our lives are marked by the natural rhythm of the Ocean, with its unpredictability and always-changing face. That’s what brings surfing not to be just a sport, but a way of living.
We have become able to forecast swells, but we can’t change them, we can’t break their natural pace, just like we can’t paddle against the current or duck-dive into huge waves.
Here is where surfing gives us the first lesson: respect.
Year after year, swell after swell, that same respect became bigger and it defined our perception of the world we live in, being able to understand Today’s biggest challenge of reducing our carbon footprint as human beings.
It’s time to honor that lesson the Ocean gave us, not just by learning how to stay in the water, but mostly by living more sustainable. About 8 million tons of plastics end up in the sea every year, endangering the marine ecosystem, ruining beaches, damaging human health, Ocean pollution unfortunately is not limited to plastics, but consists of a complex mixture of toxic metals, manufacturing chemicals, petroleum, municipal and industrial waste, pesticides and fertilizers, chemicals and wastewater.
That’s why we must avoid polluting more and more, especially in our routines, and that’s why Clean Ocean Designs was born.
Clean Ocean Designs aims to reduce our everyday environmental impact, helping Nature and Oceans while creating better solutions for surfing.
Purchasing polluting, high-damaging and plastic-based accessories to go surfing is just nonsense. What we pursue in our activity is to craft innovative and nature-based goods, linking high quality with near zero environmental impact.
The goal is to sensitize our audience, innovating with less polluting. We want your surfing to be less impactful and more sustainable, improving consciousness over the actual Earth’s need of recovering its natural land, reducing harmful substances. That’s what we define as sustainable, nowadays one of the most pronounced words we hear everyday, a development model capable of ensuring the satisfaction of the needs of the present generation without compromising the possibility of future generations to realize their own.
At Clean Ocean Designs, we believe in environmental, social, and economic sustainability. We, therefore, work by creating accessible goods for everyone, without social distinction, respecting the environment for the well-being of both our Earth and our society.”
Our products are made of natural materials, without harming the environment, also designed to be durable over time, but why? Durability ensures Clean Ocean Designs’ products to be sold once and be used for a very long period of time, so that they won’t become waste until decades of usage and when they will, their materials won’t be dangerous for the environment thanks to their natural composition, that’s why we care about the Life Cycle of our products.
This business strategy even brings customers to save a considerable amount of money, since they will be able to purchase a single efficient and durable product, rather than several non-functional goods, thus generating economic savings.
To share our business method, we leave down here some takeaways for marketers, to spread a better sustainability consciousness:

To share our business method, we leave down here some takeaways for marketers, to spread a better sustainability consciousness:
Define your environmental path, wherever it goes into Ocean conservation, reforestation projects, sustainable energy or recycling systems, depending on your business activity;
Balance your sustainability: don’t forget that while you reduce carbon footprint, you still have to remain an accessible source to customers, otherwise you’ll lose your fidelity;
Understand the Life Cycle of your products, with an in-depth thinking starting from where you get raw materials and concluding to where they end up at the end of their usage, thus trying the best to optimize their life extension;
Don’t force your audience to find new necessities for new products, going simple is the best way to attract customers, just by finding new solutions to their actual needs but with a smaller impact on the environment.
