Biography

Former Vice President Al Gore is the cofounder and chairman of Generation Investment Management, and the founder and chairman of The Climate Reality Project, a non-profit devoted to solving the climate crisis. He is also a senior partner at Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers and a member of Apple Inc.’s board of directors. Gore was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1976, 1978, 1980, and 1982 and to the U.S. Senate in 1984 and 1990. He was inaugurated as the 45th vice president of the United States on January 20, 1993, and served eight years. He is the author of the #1 New York Times best-sellers “An Inconvenient Truth” and “The Assault on Reason,” and the best-sellers “Earth in the Balance,” “Our Choice: A Plan To Solve the Climate Crisis,” “The Future: Six Drivers of Global Change,” and most recently, The New York Times best-seller “An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power.” He is the subject of the documentary movie “An Inconvenient Truth,” which won two Oscars in 2006 — and a second documentary in 2017, “An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power.” In 2007, Gore was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, along with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, for “informing the world of the dangers posed by climate change.”

The Climate Reality Project

Founded by former Vice President Gore in 2005, The Climate Reality Project (formerly the Alliance for Climate Protection) is a non-profit organization devoted to solving the climate crisis. Through grassroots leadership training, global media events, digital communications and issue campaigns, Climate Reality works to spread the truth and raise awareness about the climate crisis. Today, Vice President Gore serves as chairman and works with the organization to promote awareness of the ongoing dangers posed by global warming pollution and solutions to climate change. To promote global action, Climate Reality brings millions of people together to demand their leaders embrace solutions to the climate crisis. Its mission is to catalyze a global solution to the climate crisis by making urgent action a necessity across every sector of society. Climate Reality recruits, trains, and mobilizes people to become powerful activists, providing the skills, campaigns, and resources to push for aggressive climate action and high-level policies that accelerate a just transition to a cleaner and greener world.

Deep Space Climate Observatory (DSCOVR)

The Deep Space Climate Observatory (DSCOVR) is an Earth-observing satellite, originally proposed by former Vice President Al Gore in 1998. Inspired by Apollo 17’s photograph, The Blue Marble—the first image to show the fully illuminated face of our planet—Vice President Gore challenged NASA to create a satellite that would allow anyone to view Earth and its changing face through a continuous real-time image via the Internet. After years of delay, DSCOVR was finally launched from Cape Canaveral onboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket on February 11, 2015. The mission is a partnership between the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Organization (NOAA), the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and the United States Air Force. DSCOVR is located at the Lagrangian Point 1, or “L1,” a unique point in space—more than 1 million miles from Earth—where the gravity of the Earth and Sun are balanced. From L1, DSCOVR co-orbits the Earth and conducts its scientific missions, which include the first ever measurement of the energy budget for planet Earth.

Founded in 2004 by former Vice President Al Gore and David Blood, Generation Investment Management, LLC, is an investment management partnership dedicated to long-term investing, integrated sustainability research and client alignment. Today, former Vice President Gore serves as the Chairman of Generation Investment Management. With offices in London and San Francisco, Generation takes a long-term investment view, integrating sustainability research within a rigorous fundamental analysis framework.
